Details Jubail Industrial College, an English-medium, vocational training college requires, male, English Native speaking EFL Senior Lecturers, Lecturers and Instructors for its English Language Center. Student numbers have almost doubled in the last few years, hence the ongoing need for new staff. The chosen candidates will have a primary teaching allocation of 20 hours. Most will be teaching the Preparatory English course, which using materials prepared by Saudi Aramco, is intended to prepare students to continue their technical or business training through the medium of English. There are also specialization courses in the later years, and a number of special needs classes for industrial trainees from companies in Jubail.
All students are male, normally in the age range 18-23, and come from all over Saudi Arabia. The ELC staff comes from a variety of countries. Applications from other English speaking countries are particularly sought after as well as applications from those candidates whose secondary and tertiary education was completed in an English speaking country. The College now welcomes applications for February 2008 and September 2008.
Qualifications Qualifications: Minimum Bachelor's degree in English or Foreign Languages; preferably one-year full-time postgraduate degree or an MS/MA/MAT in TEFL /TESL or related field from an accredited university. Candidates with a first degree in other subjects will need formal EFL qualifications.
Experience: At least two years full-time teaching of English as a foreign language for those candidates with an MA, and four years for those with a BA only; the experience should preferably be in the Middle East; experience in curriculum development and evaluation and test-writing is preferred.

Background: Soon to become a university, Al Yamamah College, with state-of the-art facilities and excellent support services, offers a North American-style education and curriculum in English for men and women in two separate colleges. In partnership with Al Yamamah, Saudi INTERLINK Language Center (SILC) provides intensive English and academic preparation programs during the 'Foundation Year' and business English throughout the studentsí stay at the College. The SILC program is based on the same humanistic and holistic theories and principles of education as those used at the INTERLINK centers in the U.S. At the core of INTERLINKís success in English language training is an abiding respect for and commitment to the students themselves as well as an overarching mission to bridge the distances between countries and cultures by enhancing communication skills. SILC is seeking creative, flexible and committed educators who are comfortable with and able to adapt to an experiential, project- and needs-based program. Our curriculum is informed by a wide range of research in education and language learning, held together by a number of distinct yet interrelated linguistic and pedagogical principles. Teachers with a preference for a system of instruction that promotes inductive learning and critical thinking are most comfortable and successful in our program.
Responsibilities: The teacher's primary responsibility is to help students achieve English proficiency and academic readiness in preparation for academic study at the College or for professional and personal purposes. Teachers may also be required to teach classes offered to outside institutions and to members of the business community or general public as part of the teaching load. Specific responsibilities include: • 20 hours of weekly instruction in two-hour blocks ñ one focusing on reading and writing and one on communication skills • advising students on their progress • assisting students with study skills, time-management and learning strategies • helping program administrators with curriculum review, revision, ongoing assessment, orientation, scheduling, and placement • serving on College committees, participating in program meetings, and in off-campus activities and events
Position Requirements and Qualifications • Genuine commitment to students, the profession and to the learner-centered teaching philosophy espoused by INTERLINK and Al Yamamah College • MA in TESL/TEFL or ELT (Non-native speakers of English: must have near-native proficiency in English; at least one of their higher education degrees must be from an English-speaking country; must have earned the degree in residence in an English-speaking country • Ability to work with all proficiency levels, ranging from very basic to advanced • At least two years of experience working with ESL/EFL students • Familiarity with and willingness to use innovative approaches, including project-based, content-based, communicative, and experiential learning curricula • Superior verbal, written, interpersonal skills • Sensitivity to and ability to accept cultural differences; ability to adapt to a way of life requiring understanding, conformity and flexibility • 58 years of age or under (owing to the governmentís mandatory retirement regulations) • Preference and additional compensation will be given to candidates with Peace Corps experience, fluency in another language and/or exceptional professional or humanistic work.

Due to continued program expansion, the Foundation Program English Department at Qatar University is currently recruiting resourceful, culturally sensitive, academic professionals seeking creative input within a diverse EFL/EAP faculty, commencing September, 2008.
Responsibilities: include teaching up to 18 contact hours per week; contributing to and participating in testing/assessment; curriculum and program development; e-learning; and student advising/support activities.

The Academy for Educational Development (www.aed.org), a U.S. based international development non-profit organization, is seeking a qualified English primary Curriculum Training Specialist with subject-area expertise and a strong background in training and course design. Five month contract: January 1, 2008 – May 30, 2008. Curriculum Training Specialists will work on the Implementation of Qatar’s Education for a New Era reform initiative (http://www.english.education.gov.qa/) specifically in the design and delivery of subject specific professional development programs to over 300 teachers in Qatar.
KEY OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION Curriculum Training Specialists will be expected to design and developed advanced trainings to extend the teachers: • General understanding of Qatar’s Curriculum Standards and modern teaching and learning approaches; • Subject specific or age phase knowledge and understanding of the Curriculum Standards for their subject or grade; and • Improve their pedagogical skills and the range of teaching methods that they are able to utilize in the classroom.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY • Following site visits and initial needs analysis of Qatar independent schools, establish guidelines and framework for training course development; • Design in-depth subject specific national training courses for teachers with the objective of advancing their skills using the Qatari curriculum standards including: assessment practices, use of Information Communications Technology (ICT), action research, and student-centered instruction; • Deliver high-quality, innovative training to Qatari teachers that will positively affect and inform the following classroom teaching practices: assessment methods, differentiation, collaborative learning, curriculum planning, rubrics, and reflective practices • Conduct follow-up observations and trainings at the school level and through a cluster design to ensure training programs are transferred to schools; • Conduct research on relevant best practices; • Develop a database of global best practices in teaching and instruction; • Write reports as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE The following qualifications are expected for this position: • Advanced degree in a field related to education, English, or TESOL; • At least five years of training experience including course design and development; • Knowledge of advanced frameworks for professional development; • Familiarity with the train-the-trainer method; • Demonstrated Content-area expertise; • Experience in curriculum design, assessment methods, differentiation, collaborative learning, rubrics, and reflective practices; • Ability to learn and become familiar with Qatari curriculum standards rapidly; • Ability to adapt resources as appropriate; • Middle East regional experience preferable; • Excellent organizational, written communication and problem solving skills; • Demonstrated excellence in presentation skills and training delivery; • Strong technology skills; • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a multicultural and multi-ethnic community; • A high level of energy and creativity; • A commitment to high quality products and delivery schedules; and • Working knowledge of Arabic preferable.

In this challenging and interesting role you will prepare and teach up to 24 contact hours per week of English language classes, and develop the courses, resources and teaching materials for visually impaired students. You will also organise placement and progress testing of students, including the development of individual learning plans, and carry-out the necessary course administration.
You will have at least 2 years’ experience of teaching English, including teaching students with a low level of English. These positions are ideal for entry-level teachers or anyone looking to improve his or her teaching skills by working with mentors and colleagues in a guided, structured, and supportive atmosphere. Teachers work with students from a variety of ages and backgrounds; additionally, a significant percentage of our students are underserved youth who have received U.S.-government-supported scholarships. Teaching is complemented by a library, CALL lab, and multimedia-equipped classrooms.
Teachers can expect to work four to six hours per day (two to three classes per day), five days per week. Sessions last for six weeks and there are one-week breaks between most sessions. Teacher compensation ranges from $10 to $14 per hour, depending upon experience and qualifications. Basic housing, round-trip transportation to home of origin, and residency processing are also provided for teachers able to make a one-year commitment. Teachers should be willing to teach at any AMIDEAST Yemen locale (Sana’a, Aden, and Mukalla) and be able to start by May 1, 2008.
